About Christie Lake
Finding Indian arrow heads around Christie lake is evidence of it's first settlers. Several lots on Christie Lake were purchased in the 1850's by Robert Christie who became it's first white settler and for whom the lake is named. The Christie family lived in Ann Arbor and enjoyed Christie Lake as a summer destination traveling from Ann Arbor down Territorial Road. A stagecoach stop was created for tired travelers making Christie Lake a small town and desired destination for vacationers from Chicago and Detroit. Eventually the stagecoach stop was relocated to Lawrence in anticipation of the new invention called the steam locomotive. Any dream of Christie Lake becoming a large town ended but it continued to be a place of summer leisure and still does today.
Christie Lake is a private lake and does not have a public access ramp for boats. The lake is two miles long and almost a mile wide. The water is crystal clear and it's sandy bottom makes it great for swimming. If you bring your own boat, Paradise Cottage has a boat lift for you to use to enjoy the lake to it's fullest. If you don't have a boat, boat rentals are available from local providers. Christie Lake is an all purpose lake for water skiing, fishing, sailing, boating, etc. It is approximately 220 acres and is clean and pristine. The best part about the lake, other than being a beautiful spring-fed lake, is that it is PRIVATE. Even on the busiest weekends of the year, there is very little boat traffic and noise. That is what makes Christie Lake an amazing lake for family water sports. It's Paradise!
